- Thank-you, Elizabeth, for writing a wonderful story Review by Rebekah Boyd
-
I was asked to read Bushfire before I began work experience with Debbie Higgs. I didn’t know what to expect when I first began to read but I loved the book.Star rating
Black Saturday was a terrible time and I remember being worried myself during this time for the safety of friends, people I didn’t even know and my own family at home. Bushfire really gave me an insight into what it was like for the people who witnessed the disaster first hand. Through Ruby’s eyes, I was shown the lives of people who lost people they’d loved and their homes. It was easy to relate to, in a way, because of the way Elizabeth Mellor has written it.
As a teenager myself, I was able to relate to some of the attitudes and feelings of Ruby and other characters around my age. I laughed with them and had tears in my eyes during the emotional parts of the book that really made me think about the victims of Black Saturday and how lucky my family and I were not to be affected badly.
The book was written very well. It was easy to understand and, although it’s been written for young teenagers, I believe that people throughout every age group would enjoy this book. It’s easy to relate to and understand because of the range of characters Elizabeth has written about.
Thank-you, Elizabeth, for writing a wonderful story. I hope that others who read it will appreciate it as much as I have. (Posted on 18/08/11)
