Frequently asked questions

What is an ebook?
Ebooks or electronic books are digital copies of books that can be read on a computer/tablet/smartphone screen or dedicated eReader devices.

Ebooks come in the form of simple programs that you can download and store on your device.

Do I need any special software to read my PalmerHiggs ebook?

Most devices have their own software already installed, and the format we supply (epub) is suitable for all but the Kindle ereader (for which you’ll need to go to Amazon (click here) which has Kindle-friendly copies of our titles). For your desktop or laptop computer, you’ll need to install Adobe Digital Editions. This program is available free from Adobe at www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions and you will need to register with them to enable the Digital Rights Management (DRM) part of your ebook to be deactivated. For Apple iOS (iPad, etc.) and Android devices you’ll need to download the Bluefire reader at www.bluefirereader.com.

Do I have to register with Palmer Higgs?

For your book to be downloadable you must register with us. Knowing who you are and what books you have purchased will make it much easier for everyone. For instance, if you accidentally delete your ebook or you have some technical problem with it, we can easily see what titles you have purchased and provide you with another copy. And that’s one of the great advantages of an ebook over a printed book: if you lose a printed book, or if your dog tears out the middle chapters, good luck getting a replacement from your local bookshop; but let us know you lost it, or that it has become unreadable and we’ll replace it. At no cost.

How do I download my ebook?

Once you have decided which book you wish to purchase, click the ‘Add to Cart’ button and then click on the ‘Checkout’ button. You then choose your preferred payment method. When payment has been made, you’ll need to click on ‘My Account’ and choose ‘My Downloadable Products’ from the list on the left. This page will detail your purchase, and once you click on the 13-digit number (ISBN) beside your ebook’s title, your download will begin. In most cases your browser will then ask if you wish to save your file or open it with a specific application. We recommend that you choose to open the file with your preferred ereader application (Adobe Digital Editions or Bluefire Reader), and then save it to your preferred location on your computer. That way you can keep track of where your ebook files are.
