Early last century, just before, and between the two great wars, many young men made their way to Australia in search of a better life for themselves and their families.
One of these young men, Spiros Kiriakou Litsis whose name in English was Spiro Litchen, came from Epirus in Northern Greece, and through hard work he built a business, created a family and lived a much better life than would have been possible in the old world.
Though his story is no more remarkable than all of the others who left their homelands at the beginning of the last century, it is none the less unique.
Each and every one of these migrants should be remembered because without their individually unique and collective contributions Australia would have been a very different place to the one we know and love today.
